Najib-on damage control mode, but still way off the mark

Since taking over as the PM, Najib has implemented several measures to win back support for him and his Umno/BN. These include liberalizing the country’s economy, relaxing a host of restrictions on foreign investment, the announcement of 2 stimulus packages of RM 7 billion and RM60 billion, releasing of ISA detainees, giving a facelift to Brickfields to appease the Indians and naming Port Dickson an Army town to appease the army

I suppose he means business when he declared that the BN must take back Selangor in the next GE and this includes all the other states that BN lost.
But try as he might, he is missing the point. How do the above measures benefit the ordinary rakyat? The problem with the government is the question of credibility. It has to address this issue with sincerity and seriousness. The foot dragging investigation of the Kugan murder case and the current Teoh Boon Hock’s death enquiry are examples of its reluctance to bring the culprits to book. The public is also not happy with the outcome of the Lingam scandal, the C4 murder case, and the most recent Cow Head protest episode. On top of that the over zealous interrogation of opposition Aduns and MPs but only a tap on the wrist of Khir Toyo by the MACC is not enhancing the image of the Barisan Govt. The Barisan must be serious in wanting to punish the offenders involved in all the scandals and corruption. But to date this has not been the case. Selective persecution, prosecution, and disclosure are still the order of the day. Even if there is a change towards transparency and accountability, the public perception is still in the negative territory, and it will need some hard and continuous evidence to convince the public to think otherwise.
