Deputy IGP - Have you forgotten what Nazri said?

The Deputy IGP had warned that affirmative action would be taken against those who talk of seditious issues. His warning was in reference to a speech by PKR Youth chief, Shamsul Iskandar.
As surely as Tuhan is your witness, compare the racial rhetorics of Ibrahim Ali and the speech of Shamsul and determine which is more deadly.
Next, consider Nazri's statement that the govt. had been forced to relax its control over an individual's right to free speech. He further stated that the landscape had changed and sensitive matters are being discussed in the open. So what are you barking about? or has the landscape suddenly changed back again?
According to Nazri, Ibrahim Ali's statement had not caused any riot, even after many days, as people are no longer as sensitive as before. So no action is necessary.
So as a policeman, please be consistent with upholding the law fairly. Shamsul's speech had not caused any riot or uprising. So as you have left IA alone, leave Shamsul alone too.
Finally if you want to take affirmative action against those who talk of seditious issues, don't forget that Ibrahim Ali should be first in the queue, that is if you honour the badge you are wearing.

Najid -Allow Bersih Rally and you can still Win

I have just finished watching the historical Chinese Epic movie "The Three Kingdoms", and I would strongly recommend that the UMNO people, especially the Prime Minister, Najib, the Home Minister, and the police, to watch the movie to learn the strategies of wars. Its not only about wars, but about human emotions, such as pride, arrogance, greed and power that brought about the downfall of certain Generals and thereby the defeats of certain battles. The most impressive aspect of the story is about the battle of wits among the Councilors/Advisors of the various kingdoms. The Councilor that studied and understand the human minds and emotions, not only won the conflict, but also the hearts and minds of the people they conquered.
The Umnos should do well to learn this strategy. For instance, instead of banning the Bersih rally, which will go on anyway, why not allow it to go on, with proper supervision of the route taken and crowd control. The umno leaders would have no doubt witness this being done in certain countries, whereby the police not only supervise the walks, but also protect the walkers/demonstrators. This will not only show that the democratic rights of the citizens are being upheld, but will also show that the government has nothing to hide or fear.
Even if there is something to hide or fear, learn from the councilors of the "Three Kingdoms". Let the rally go on to show your magnanimity whereby you may win back some votes. Beside the world will also look kindly on you. But when everything is over, you can still go back to your dirty trick like "Lu tolong gua, gua tolong lu". Besides, umno will still be in control of the Election Commission and can still manipulate all they want. But arrogance and kiasu syndrome will only lead to disaster.
Obviously, the PM has no good councilors to give sound advice. Obviously APCO has not studied the Art of War by Sun Tzu.
But then again, umno Malays have always been known to be arrogant, power crazy and refusing to learn from anyone, especially the pendatang Chinese, because they consider themselves the superior race, and no other race can teach them anything. Yeah right, that's how the conceited Generals and   Councilors in the movie, lost their battle, war and Kingdom.

Ibrahim Ali - You should watch your mouth with your Chinese bashing!

I am really speechless at the inaction of the Home minister and the police for not reining in Ibrahim Ali for all his seditious remarks. He has threatened to turn Kuala Lumpur into a sea of blood on July 9 if his wishes were not heeded. Words like "anything could happen"  and warning the Chinese to stay at home and suggesting that the Chinese stock up food as "chaos could erupt", are 101 % seditious and this is definitely worst than asking the mosque to tune down their prayer volume for which Teresa Kok was ISA-ed.
What more does the police need? a real sea of blood?
Anyway, this is an All-Malaysian Bersih rally, so why single out the Chinese, unless he is threatening the Chinese. May I remind Ibrahim Ali that we Chinese are no easy meat and don't push us against the wall. Ibrahim should see more of the Hong Kong movies and study our culture and see how we Chinese fight back when pushed too far. Get your facts straight IA. The rally is not about Datuk Ambiga or the Chinese. So don't use the Chinese as your punching bag. So don't make us angry. As David Banner (alias the HULK) says, "You don't like it when I am angry"
There is nothing racial about this but Ibrahim Ali is making it into one. The Malays, Chinese and Indians and others just want the Election Commission to carry out the General election fairly and transparently. What is wrong with that? It is practically pointless trying to reason with Ibrahim Ali and his gang, as they simply refuse to listen. Their main purpose is to oppose whatever that is not in favour of the umno government.
As for fighting for the Malays, where was he when the 3 Malay boys were shot at Glenmarie last November? Where was he when Ahmad Sarbani, the Assistant Director of the Customs Department in Port Klang, died under suspicious circumstance? Where was he when Aminulrasyid was chased and gunned down by the police? Did he declare that blood will flow if the police or the macc did not put their heart and soul into the investigations?
So here again, its useless trying to reason with such a person. He simply won't listen. He just want to create trouble to be in the limelight for a few more months as he knows he will disappear into oblivion come13 GE.

Branded and chained like Hard-core Criminals.

penang gro raid 030611 news clipping

This is how our Polis Di-Raja Malaysia treated suspected Flesh traders from China - being branded and chained like animals as if being led to the slaughter house - and they had not even been charged and found guilty yet. The authorities had deprived the women of dignity when they 'branded' their bodies. They had shown a flagrant lack of decency in them. The Penang police chief Ayub Yaakob, had defended the action of marking the foreheads and chests as they feared that they would run away. But why the forehead and the chest and not the hand as was normally done. Meanwhile the Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM) had rightly questioned whether the police' actions were part of the force's standard operating procedures (SOP). There were also eight men who were detained and asked whether these men were also similarly branded?
Such action cannot be condoned by right thinking Malaysians and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. No religion teach its followers to treat another fellow human beings in such manner. Its derogatory, inhumane, and a gross violation of human rights.
Me thinks the police have been given too much ropes and are getting more arrogant without anymore care for their SOP.

The Sungei Buluh Nursery Issue - what gives?

The Selangor Pakatan government needs to come out with a clearer explanation on the Sungei Buluh nursery land dispute. The reason given  by the Menteri Besar for the rejection of the issue of TOL is certainly unacceptable. He stated that the Yayasan Selangor was given the land because "it had 30 years of experience in property management, and that it would enable Yayasan Selangor to take care of the water pipes below the nurseries. However, state Executive councillor Ronnie Lui said that the Agency was given the land so as "to develop and revamp the area. So what is the real reason now? To take care of the water pipes or to develop and revamp the area?
And while the issue rages on, the BN parties are capitalising on this and accusing the Selangor Pakatan government of not keeping their pre-election promises of taking care of the people. MCA vice-president Datuk Donald Lim is throwing accusation in the mass media and this will definitely hurt the Pakatan in the coming GE. He said that Pakatan had always promised transparency but now seemed to be operating in a "black box" as "no one knows what they are doing."
An MIC division chief Barath Maniam said that the Pakatan was taking the rakyat for a ride, and  MCA Chua Tee Yong said the Selangor government's move had clearly shown that the Pakatan could not honour its promises.
Even MP for the area R.Sivarasa seemed to be in support of the nursery operators as he had  advised them to bring the matter to court.
So Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, what is brewing? While our infamous Ibrahim A is helping to add votes to the Pakatan with his rhetorics, you in Selangor are driving away votes to the BN. Whatever it is, a promise is a promise, transparency means transparency. We the rakyat are no fools and would not be taken for a ride too. We, who still have faith in Pakatan, demand a proper explanation, otherwise.......If you are going to operate  the same way as the BN, we might as well retain the BN, as the devil we already know is better than one we don't know.

A Patriot that should have been in our History Books.

Come June 12, it will be exactly 63 years since Sybil Kathigasu, the freedom fighter, died.
Most Malaysians know little of her. This is mainly because she, along with many other distinguished non-Malay freedom fighters, have been “buried” and forgotten by the ruling Umno government.
Why this is so is another hotly debated matter.
Recent reproaches by the people on the Umno government’s take on Malaysian history, which has erased all acknowledgement of non-Malay freedom fighters, tell of a new awakening in our midst.
This brings the focus to Sybil.
Sybil is the only Malaysian woman to have ever received the distinguished George Medal (GM) for gallantry and bravery. Instituted by the late King George VI, the GM recognises both civilian gallantry in the face of enemy action and brave deeds.
She wrote a book “No Dram of Mercy”, which gives an insightful account of a woman of great courage who should be held as a beacon and role model to all Malaysians.
In the 1940s, Sybil sacrificed a great deal in the fight for freedom of Malaya.
Born on Sept 3, 1899 in Medan, Indonesia, Sybil Medan Daly was a trained nurse and midwife.

Turning point
In 1919 she married Dr Abdon Clement Kathigasu and they were blessed with two daugthers, Olga and Thavam. Later on, the couple adopted a son, William Pillay.
Sybil and Abdon operated a clinic in Brewster Road, now known as Jalan Sultan Idris Shah in Ipoh, Perak, for 14 years before the war descended on them.
Sybil’s warmth, readiness to help and her fluency in Cantonese made her popular with the local Chinese community.

Then came the war and the invasion of Malaya by the Japanese army in 1941.
When the Japanese army occupied Ipoh, Sybil and her family moved away to Papan, a small town fringing Ipoh.
Papan would soon prove to become a turning point in Sybil’s life.
It was here that Sybil began “consolidating” her commitment to helping the local community who were members of the Malayan People’s Anti-Japanese Army (MPAJA).
Sybil secretly supplied medicines, medical services and information to the underground guerilla forces of the Fifth Independent Regiment of MPAJA freedom fighters who camped in nearby hills and jungles.
She also secretly kept shortwave radio sets and clandestinely listened to BBC broadcasts to keep in touch with the situation around the world, especially in Britain and Europe.
Those acts were, at the time, considered criminal and highly subversive by the military administration of Japan in Malaya.

It has been told and retold by many that Sybil and her husband had treated more than 6,000 guerilla fighters who fought relentlessly for the independence of Malaya.
Eventually Sybil and her husband were caught. The Japanese army arrested them in 1943.
They promised to release Sybil and her husband but on condition that she revealed the names of the MPAJA forces. But Sybil was adamant and refused to do so.
In fact, she is said to have told the Japanese government that she was “willing to die with my family, then disclose the 30,000 MPAJA and family members who fought for independence of Malaya”.
Sybil was prepared to face the punishment by the Japanese army.
They punished her husband, son and her daughter Thavam, who was then seven years old.
But Sybil, who suffered the anguish of knowing her family’s pain, did not relent.
She refused to betray the MPAJA members and their families. Finally, Sybil was sent to Batu Gajah prison where she was further tortured.
According to her memoir, the Japanese army sprayed soap water into her vagina and forced her to sit for hours on ice cubes and she was not allowed to sleep.

Sybil survived three years of torture and torment under the Japanese army and was only relased after Japan lost the war.
Following her release, Sybil was flown to Britain for medical treatment. It was there that she wrote her now famous memoir, “No Dram of Mercy”.
She went on to write a second book “Face of Courage”, which gave a revealing insight into her family.

But the three years of incessant torture by the Japanese army took its toll on Sybil.

Sybil died on June 12, 1948, in Britain, seven months after she was released from her Batu Gajah prison cell.
Her body was initially buried in Lanark, Scotland, but was later returned to Ipoh and buried at the Roman Catholic cemetery beside St Michael’s Church.

The older generation who are familiar with the Sybil Kathigasu story recalled how her remains arrived in Penang from Scotland by ship and transported to her home in Ipoh’s Brewster Road.
It was one of the largest funeral processions ever seen in Malaysia.

Royal-style sendoff
Sybil, the Malayan heroine, was treated in royal style. Some 100,000 people from all over the country turned up to say goodbye. Even people from as far as Thailand, Vietnam, Borneo and Indonesia came to pay their respects.
In Ipoh, a road is named after her to commemorate her bravery and Sybil’s shophouse at 74, Main Road, Papan, is now being presevered by Law Siak Hong, the president of the Perak Heritage Society.

In 2008, the Actor Studio’s in Kuala Lumpur produced a play and trained her grand-niece Elaine Daly to play the title role of “Sybil”.
There’s also a Singapore TV drama series titled “The Price of Peace” about her life.

Sybil’s life is perhaps the best example of unity – an Indian women who willingly sacrificed her life for MPAJA members who were mostly Chinese who fought for the independence of Malaya and Malays.
