Police didn't know those Arrested were Lawyers

The on-going Suhakam enquiry into the arrest of five lawyers who were present as legal representatives at the Brickfields police station in May was told by the police that they (the police) did not know they were lawyers. The report in the Star did not mention the reaction of the Suhakam panel members, but I do sincerely hope that they did not swallow this yarn in toto. Most of us had watched the scene on U-tube and we know that the one who made the most noise and also the most aggressive was the OCPD himself. He refused to listen as he was more interested in shouting warnings through the loud hailer. So even if the lawyers had identified themselves, no one would have heard. I presume the panel had watched the video so as to get a clearer picture of the situation. Anyway it is reproduced below to refresh everyone’s memory.
