Voting is your Responsibility

I have just returned from helping a group of volunteers who are going round on a kind of "road show" to encourage elligible votes to register as voters. Let me emphasize right from the beginning that these volunteers are not aligned to any political party and they will only set up their work base only when they are invited by those who are interested to have them. They have no name and they provide this service on the quiet. In this instance, they were invited by the St. Francis Xavier Church at Petaling Jaya to help register their parishioners and those who attend the services. It was a very successful 2-day effort as the total of new registered voters came to about 350, just from one congregation alone.
According to statistics, three million Malaysians who are registered voters did not bother to vote and another four to five million did not register as voters. That means, while eight million Malaysians voted, another seven to eight million did not. The seven million who did not vote is indeed an alarming figure. In the past, the perception is nothing much could be done because the government controlled everything.  But a paradigm shift in this perception is taking shape, especialy with the advent of the internet. No more do we need to swallow hook, line and sinker the one-sided rubbish dished out by the government-own media. Let us stop wailing and howling about the corruption, discrimination and unfairness. Let us use our vote to right all the wrongs. SO REGISTER TO VOTE. YOU CAN MALE THE DIFFERENCE.
