It looks like our ministers are trying to outdo each other to see who can embarrass our country the most. Lets take a look.
From the DPM on the caning of the women. "While the caning meted out by the civil court can cause hurt and sometimes even death, canning according to syriah law is light."
How light is light? According to the women who were caned " even 100 strokes of the syariah cane will not be equivalent to one stroke of civil caning." Home Minister said that "all three women did not suffer any cuts or bruises." So what is the purpose? Will they relent under these circumstances? No pain and no shame, but just a few strokes with a piece of something which does not even cause hurt or bruise. What lesson have they learnt? Yes we must explain to the world our laws, but how to explain this kind of punishment which makes a mockery of the punishment.
Next we have the Foreign Minister, Anifah Aman who said that " Malaysia judiciary operates according to the legal standards of any other fully developed country, requiring that every person here receives a fair trial." Is he for real? or has he just awakened from a deep slumber? A fair trial indeed. Anyway, we are not a fully developed country yet, so we are not operating fully according to the legal standards. Hence the hanky-panky business by the extraordinary judges. Wonder whether they have any conscience to prick them?
And from our Defence Minister, Ahmad Zahid, on the inability of the brand new submarine to go under -"thankfully, quite minor and of no cost to us because the submarine is still under warranty" and compared the defect of a billion dollar submarine with the defect of a toyota car.
And finally back to our DPM again. Always quick on the draw, he was on spot praising Pas president Hadi Awang for his supposedly criticism of the Australian MPs. But Hadi Awang, has claimed that he has been misquoted by Bernama. So where do you put your face now, DPM? Be a true leader, check your facts first before you embarrass the country further.
