Having trigger-happy cops running around is bad enough, but we also have incompetent investigators taking charge of the investigation. First we have the AG returning the investigative reports for more details. Now we have the police recalling the 15 year old witneess Azamuddin Omar, for the third time for further questioning. Why can't they get it right the first time? It gives rise to all kinds of speculation and when this happens, we are warned not to speculate. But the police's action has given reasons to speculate. In this latest meeting, they wanted to know whether the final shot was fired before or after the car crashed into the drain. They also wanted to know how many shots were fired. Asking a traumatised boy all these questions means only one thing - to intimidate and trap him into saying different versions at different times. Gee, there were several policemen chasing and shooting him. Grill them instead and see whether their stories are consistent. For goodness sake, with bullets flying around, you expect a 15 year old to be calm and count the number of shots. Leave the frightened kid alone and get on with the real task of indentifying the murderer.
Finally the police PR department must really be sleeping on the job. If this is the way to garner public sympathy and support, they are doing a fine job at it. Carry on then.
