Speaking up is not an option

As one who has lived through 52 Merdeka Day celebrations, it pains my heart to see that my beloved country is still struggling to achieve racial harmony. This 1 Malaysia and other unity slogans are just that, mere slogans. They are just words uttered to appease those who are gullible enough to swallow these empty words. 'Cakap tak serupa bikin' is more likely the practice of the present government in power. There are more than enough evidences to show the double standard in the way the government control agencies that enforce the laws. But what do they care? They have their own agendas and everyone knows too well what they are.

A Methodist Bishop recently said in a sermon that not matter how impressive or mega your church building is, if the spirit of God is not present, it will be just an empty building, void of any life. Similarly, you can have the twin tower, the longest this and that, but if there is no racial harmony, the spirit of unity and patriotism will be but a dream. What is there to be proud of?

The issues I mentioned above are old issues and have been dealt with by many. I maybe knocking my head against a wall, but if I continue to knock and add strength to the choruses of voices that also knock against injustice, corruption and racial bigots, the wall will one day come down. At least I have done my part for the future generations of my tanahair. Have you? What memory of you are you going to leave to your children and grandchildren?
